HELP RESTORE THE

Little Red Store

Wauwatosa's earliest commerce and architecture are vital aspects of its historical character. The Little Red Store is an important  survivor from Wauwatosa's earliest history, having served throughout the years as a dwelling, the oldest post office building in Milwaukee County,  a railroad depot, general store, library, Republican Party headquarters, harness shop, grocery, and plumbing shop. Many of the trades the building sheltered are things of the past that deserve to be commemorated for their contributions to the development of  Wauwatosa.

In a special arrangement with the city, the Wauwatosa Historical Society has stepped in to preserve this important piece of  Tosa’s past.  It will transform the Little Red Store into a Visitors’ Welcome Center for the Village area! At this time, there is no electric, water or sewer service to the Little Red Store. Interior and exterior repairs will make the structure sound, safe, and handicap-accessible.  The City of Wauwatosa has committed $150,000 to the renovation project by way of a Community Development Block Grant. The Wauwatosa Historical Society has pledged to raise the additional $125,000 needed.  The Jacobus Family has generously taken the lead with their donation of  $75,000.  Now it’s up to you!  Make your tax-deductible contribution. Save the Little Red Store!
