Wood and iron desks, slate chalk boards, and McGuffy readers are part of a full morning field trip to the one-room schoolhouse.
Our program is FREE for all second-grade classes in Wauwatosa, both public and private. All programs are in the morning from 9am to 11:30am. Maximum 24 students.
We accept bookings from school districts outside of Wauwatosa and from nonprofit or private organizations. Cost is $3 per student. Minimum 15 students.
Schoolhouse programs are offered in the spring (April and May) and fall (September and October). Classes are taught by volunteers, and dates for each season are based on volunteer availability.
The Schoolhouse is on the second floor of the Coach House on the Kneeland-Walker grounds, accessible by stairs only.
Visiting students may wear period attire (bonnets, aprons, suspenders) to get into the spirit of the turn-of-the-century schoolhouse experience. Aprons and neckerchiefs are available to all the students.
