Every Bit Helps Our Mission
Our educational programs and facilities are maintained by donations only. Please consider donating to one of the many committees dedicated to upholding our mission and serving the community. You can also support us by donating items or volunteering your time or expertise.
Other Ways to Help
Current Volunteer Opportunities
We love volunteers. If you’re looking for ways to help, please let us know.
Events: Firefly, Oktoberfest, Home Tour, Special Events
Volunteers serve as organizers, do set-up and take-down or work the days of the event. Most positions involve half-day shifts. Chairs direct and oversee the event.
Volunteers work in the research library on Wednesdays helping library visitors, preparing materials, researching genealogical queries and organizing the library.
Gardens and Grounds
Gardeners help with pruning, planting and maintenance of annuals, perennials and shrubs throughout the grounds.
Little Red Store: Rentals, Storekeeper
Storekeepers greet visitors on Saturday mornings in the summer, sell treats and offer information about WHS and the building. Rental volunteers open and close the building when it’s rented out for private events.
Schoolhouse: Teachers, Docents, Cleaning
The schoolhouse operates in the spring and the fall. Volunteers teach second-grade field trips in the 19th-century classroom in the coach house. Docents give a brief history of Wauwatosa and lead a quick tour of the house. The schoolhouse is cleaned before the spring and fall sessions, and aprons and kerchiefs are laundered.
Facilities: Cleaning, Repair, Maintenance
The house requires regular vacuuming, dusting and arranging for rentals and tours. Volunteers are also needed for occasional repairs and maintenance.
Help us out with regular posts to social media: Facebook, Instagram, blog posts and more!
Newsletter: Write, Edit, Layout, Mailing
The quarterly newsletter includes a historical feature article, as well as updates on WHS activities. We can use writers, designers and editors to produce the newsletters, and help to get it to the post office.
Docent, House Guardian: Tours, Rentals'
Docents lead tours of the house and share its history. Guardians are in charge of opening and closing the house for rentals. Tours and rentals are scheduled throughout the year.
Museum Collections: Organize, Storage
Volunteers organize, prepare and store objects, including textiles, documents and photographs.
